Soybean oil represents a big
market for potential investors. Driven by its applications for both edible and
industrial uses, the global demand for soybean oil is expected to grow at a
CAGR of 4% during the next five years.
Unlike the seeds of most other
legumes, the soybean has a high oil content, and is often called an
"oilseed." The value of the soybean, which contains significant
amounts of both oil and proteins, lies in the fact that there is a strong
demand for both of these ingredients, either directly or indirectly, in human
foods. It has been found that soybean contains about 18% oil and 35% protein
and the need to separate these two major components has given rise to the
soybean crushing industry. The two products that emerge after crushing are
soybean oil and soybean meal.
Soybean oil represents a big
market for potential investors. According to Industry reports, palm and palm
kernel oil represented the world’s most popular vegetable oil accounting for
31% of the total global vegetable oil consumption. Soybean oil represented the
second most popular vegetable oil accounting for around 22% of the total global
vegetable oil consumption. Reports also
suggest that most (around 85%) of the global soybean oil was consumed in edible
products such as cooking oil, margarine, mayonnaise, salad dressing, etc. This
was followed by industrial uses such as in paint, varnish, linoleum, rubber
fabrics, biodiesel etc. and the feed sector. As far as soybean oil prices are
concerned, they depend upon a number of factors. This includes the demand of
its end use sectors, raw soybean supply and prices, crude oil prices and the
supply demand of other major vegetable oils. Industry reports currently expect
the global demand of soybean oil to grow at a CAGR of around 4% in the next
five years.
